Wayland Claxton Obituary, Death – The passing of Wayland “Jay” Claxton occurred on May 14th, 2023. Visitation with the family will take place at Paramount Baptist Church on Friday, May 19, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:15 a.m., prior to the memorial service which will commence at 10:30 a.m. on that same day. On April 11th, 1966, Wayland bestowed his blessing upon Wayne Wayland and Mary Nell Claxton and this Earth. In 1984, Jay received his diploma from Colorado City High School, and he afterwards attended Western Texas College for his junior college education. Jay continued his study at West Texas State University, and it was there that he met Cheri Scott, the woman who would become the love of his life. On January 14, 1989, the couple wed in Tatum, New Mexico, and have been lucky to spend the past 34 years together engaging in a variety of exciting activities.

My brother Jay had a golden heart and a laugh that could light up an entire room. Because of his dedication to our marriage, I was never uncertain of the unwavering love he had for me, no matter what circumstances we found ourselves in. Jay lived his life in service to his family and his faith. As a parent, he made it his mission to inculcate in his offspring the values of putting God first, having a strong work ethic, and giving without expecting anything in return. Jay demonstrated his commitment to his family, his friends, and everyone else he served by always being devoted to them. My Jay is the most trustworthy buddy anyone could hope to have. He was well-known across the community for his kind and compassionate character, his willingness to go the extra mile for those who were in need, and the fact that he gave his time for a variety of charitable causes and activities.

Together with his family and friends, Jay would often go fishing, golfing, playing watersports, and camping in the great outdoors. His favorite activity was racing across the Rocky Mountains and splattering mud and water on each other as they went. Other activities in life, like as hunting and throwing barbecues, offered Jay a great deal of pleasure. However, above all else, he treasured the time he spent creating happy recollections with his loved ones. Jay was well-known for a number of things, including his “Famous Pork Tenderloin,” his dependability, his unwavering commitment, and the unwavering trust he had in his Lord and Savior.
