Royal moved to the Triangle in the early 1980s and began his career as a chef at the Fearrington House in Pittsboro. Royal is originally from Alabama and began his career in the Triangle. After that, he moved on to Durham, where he assisted in the establishment of the Magnolia Grill, which went on to win multiple awards, before becoming the Angus Barn’s first-ever executive chef in the year 1997. His professional life led him all around the United States, and he even competed on and won an episode of Iron Chef America in 2006.
