Thomas Broome Obituary, Death – The Honorable Judge Thomas H. Broome served the Rankin County Youth Court for many years. It is with a heavy heart that the court must announce his demise. After fighting an illness for several weeks, Judge Broome passed away this morning in the company of his cherished family. He had been in failing health for some time. A forward-thinking and influential figure in the field of juvenile justice passed away today in Rankin County.
Since 2003, Judge Broome had been serving on both the Rankin County County Court and the Rankin County Youth Court. During that time period, Judge Broome had been a staunch advocate for mending broken families and working to improve the lives of difficult children. Because of his commitment and passion towards juvenile justice, many broken homes were repaired, and the downward spiral that many disturbed adolescents and their families were caught in was helped to be reversed.
The legacy of his work will live on forever. Judge Broome had been a mentor to those of us who had the special pleasure of knowing him and working with him over the course of many years, much in the same way that he had been a mentor to young people over the course of his career. He served as a model for many others who would later turn their vocation in the field of juvenile justice into a professional career.
We are heartbroken over the passing of Judge Broome, and we are grateful for the opportunity to have worked alongside him. However, there are no words that can fully express either of these emotions. The Rankin County Youth Court and its staff will pay tribute to his life and legacy by making a commitment to carry on the job that he was so passionate about.
During this trying time, we ask that you keep Judge Broome’s family, including his wife Paula and their children, in your thoughts and prayers as they work through the challenges that they are facing.
