Sophia Chifici Obituary, Death – Barbara in the age of 77, “Mrs. Barbara” Anselmo Chifici passed away suddenly on January 23, 2021 in Ochsner Medical Center Kenner as a result of complications from Coronavirus. Barbara has spent her entire life in New Orleans. She received her elementary education at St. Rita Catholic School in New Orleans and earned her high school diploma from Academy of the Holy Angels. A graduate of Meadows-Draughon Business College, Louisiana State University, Loyola University, and the University of New Orleans, she also attended the University of New Orleans.

Barbara was the proprietor of the independent family restaurant chain known as Deanie’s Seafood eateries and served as the matriarch of the family. Barbara was born into a big extended Italian family of restaurateurs, and it was in her family’s establishments that she gained an understanding of the hard requirements involved in managing and owning a family restaurant. During the course of her career, Barbara was frequently asked to serve as a judge for various culinary events all around the country.

In 2013, she was given the Outstanding Foodservice Professional Award by the New Orleans chapter of the American Culinary Federation. Up until the beginning of the Coronavirus pandemic in the spring of last year, she was a constant presence at the restaurants. Barbara served as a source of motivation for countless generations of people working in the hotel industry. She raised her seven children as a widow and built a fulfilling life for herself and her family by focusing on the importance of food, spirituality, and community.

Her accomplishments as a businesswoman far above what her generation thought was possible for a woman in her position. She built and maintained a New Orleans seafood restaurant tradition for almost four decades by infusing everything she did with a true sense of hospitality, quality, family, and pride. She accomplished this with the poise of a mother and the steely resolve of a businesswoman.
