She passed away in the early hours of Shabbat on the 29th of Iyar, in the year 5783. She had only turned 16 a week before she passed away, and she had been battling cancer for the preceding year. She had just recently celebrated her birthday. Shaina Welner was the eldest of six children who were born to R’ Yaakov and Rochel Welner, a Lubavitcher couple who are important members of the burgeoning Phoenix Chabad community and who established the Lubavitcher Cheder there under the direction of Senior Shliach Rabbi Zalman Levertov. Shaina Welner was the first child to be born to R’ Yaakov and Rochel Welner. R’ Yaakov and Rochel Welner welcomed their first child into the world with the birth of Shaina.
The only members of her family who are still alive are Chaya, Leah, Tzippy, Yitzi, and Naomi. She was the only member of her family to pass away. Her parents, Rabbi Yaakov and Rochel Welner, are the only ones who will remember her. The levaya will take place in Arizona as its designated location.
