Samuel Hedden Obituary, Death – Lynald E. Silsbee, the former headmaster of Swain School, passed away on Friday, May 19, 2023, as we write this letter. Our hearts are heavy as we share this news with you today. He was in his eightieth year. Before his retirement in 2006, Silsbee, who was a much-loved member of the Swain family, worked as the headmaster of what was once known as The Swain School for a period of 25 years. While he was in charge of the school, Swain saw extraordinary growth in terms of the number of students enrolled, the size of the budget, and the physical expansion of the campus grounds and amenities.
However, those who had the luxury of being Silsbee’s colleague, friend, or student know that above all else, he will be remembered for the profound and genuine compassion that he provided to anyone who happened to cross his path. This is the trait that will be most cherished in people’s memories of him.
Joy, in both teaching and in learning, is perhaps the most emblematic characteristic of today’s Swain culture, and it is a part of Silsbee’s legacy that we are quite delighted to carry forward. In addition, we are also proud to carry on Silsbee’s tradition of celebrating life. There will be a Memorial Service on the morning of Thursday, May 25, 2023 at 10:00 AM at the Stephens Funeral Home, which is located at 274 N. Krocks Rd., Allentown, Pennsylvania 18106. Before the service at 10 AM, there will be a calling hour from 9 AM to 10 AM.
