Richard Mercado Obituary, Death – On May 7, 2023, Dr. Richard “Dick” Mercado, who had reached the age of 93, passed away in his home in Goodyear, Arizona. On March 23, 1930, he was born in Phoenix, Arizona to parents Leonardo S. Mercado and Hazel Hawley Mercado. He had one sister, Gertrude Mercado Traw (1928-1992), who was born in Phoenix in 1928. He started his education at Longview Elementary School in Phoenix and continued his education at Tempe Union High School in Tempe, Arizona, where he graduated in 1946 at the age of 16.

He received his diploma from Arizona Bible Institute in 1951 and went on to teach there afterwards. Grand Canyon College, which is now known as Grand Canyon University, awarded him the highest distinction possible for his Bachelor of Arts degree in Theology. He was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Divinity by Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina, in the year 1980. His entire life, which spanned 93 years, was spent in the Valley of the Sun.

Dick put his faith in Jesus Christ as his savior at a young age, and he preached the gospel for the first time at the age of 16. Since then, he has spent the most of his life (77 years) sharing the good news. In 1956, he tied the knot with Margine Clark, a resident of Phoenix, Arizona, who would go on to become his cherished ministry partner for the next 63 years. Dr. Mercado served as the pastor of La Iglesia Evangelica/The Evangelical Church.

Which was initially situated in the central business district of Phoenix and eventually relocated to the west side of the city. Concurrently, he held the position of General Director of The Mexican Gospel Mission, which was a mission organization established by his father Leonardo and devoted to carrying out the Great Commission across the Hispanic globe by means of evangelism, discipleship, church planting, and theological education.
