James Campbell Obituary, Death Cause – James After a brief struggle with a disease that was ultimately fatal, Ashley Campbell, who went by the name Ashley to everyone in his family and circle of acquaintances, entered into eternal rest on May 13, 2023.
Ashley was born in Taylor County, Florida, in 1966. He was raised in Perry, Florida, and attended Taylor County High School, from which he graduated in 1984. His parents, James Marshall Campbell and Patsy Carol Morrison, were both born in Florida.
After graduating high school, Ashley made the decision to learn via her experiences instead of attending college. Ashley started his career in the public sector in Tallahassee, Florida, after working as a records manager for the Florida Department of State and the Florida Department of Corrections in Opelika, Alabama, where he had previously owned and operated his own furniture company before selling it. In November of 2022, Ashley walked away from her career at the Florida Department of Corrections.

As soon as Ashley moved back to Tallahassee from Opelika, he started dating Roxann, whom he always referred to as his “pretty redheaded girl.” The two of them started sharing their lives together in the year 2000, got married in 2005, and were still together until Ashley passed away in 2010. The pursuit of a trophy whitetail, hearing a wild turkey break a spring morning wide open with a gobble, navigating the wild rivers and streams and the Gulf of Mexico he’d known since childhood with just a compass and a prayer, and preparing to perfection were some of Ashley’s greatest joys. Ashley loved the old days and the old ways, and he found his greatest joys in the simple things. Walking the fields and woods looking for arrowheads, catching a Ashley was aware of the fact that these simple-looking arts held a greater significance to the human spirit than their seeming lack of complexity would lead one to believe.

As a team, Ashley and Roxann were responsible for the breeding and upbringing of German Shorthair Pointers. Ashley takes a great deal of satisfaction in the fact that the breeding and training programs at their kennel have been extremely successful both in the working environment and in the show ring. But showing off his great canines in the field was the thing that made Ashley the most proud. He took particular pleasure in accompanying his buddies quail hunting and in providing others with the rare opportunity to participate in an old-fashioned activity that consisted of strolling behind superb gun dogs and shooting over them in the area that is now known as the Red Hills Region.
