Iris was born on March 1, 1930 in Green Bay, Wisconsin. She went to West High School and was a talented singer there. Iris’s childhood was spent in the midst of the Great Depression, and she would frequently regale us with tales of adversity and perseverance.
She was a die-hard Green Bay Packers supporter who volunteered with her family to work at the concession booths at Lambeau Field during Packer games. At a local dance, she was introduced to the man who would become the love of her life, Bob Bush.
They announced their engagement to one another and then a few months later, on December 30, 1950, they wed in Green Bay. Soon after that, Bob and Iris packed up their family and moved to Battle Creek, Michigan, where they brought up their brood of six children. They were regulars at the Saint Joseph Catholic Church in the neighbourhood. Iris was an employee at Kmart for more than 15 years.
