Hy Goldman Obituary, Death – On Friday, May 19, 2023, in the ninety-seventh year of his life, he passed away peacefully without any known complications. Sandy’s loving husband of more than fifty-five years at this point in time. He was a kind and generous father and father-in-law to Ilan, Ronit, and Noah, as well as to Daveed and Ainsley. Zaida was the much-loved grandmother of Joah, Ely, Arly, and Tyler all of whom were her grandchildren.
Beloved son of the late Sam Goldman and Becky Goldman (Née Laster), who both preceded him in death. Sam and Becky Goldman both passed away. loyal brother to the late Jeanette and Aaron, as well as a loyal brother-in-law to Helene. Both of his siblings have already passed away. Everyone who was close to Hy and knew and loved him, including his family, friends, and coworkers, will suffer a deep and profound loss as a result of his passing.
Hy was motivated by an unquenchable zeal when it came to giving back to the Jewish community in Montreal as well as the medical community there. In addition to his more than half a century of service at the Montreal Children’s Hospital, Hy and Sandy founded KlezKanada, an annual arts festival that honors Jewish klezmer music and Yiddish culture and is held in the Laurentians as well as in and around Montreal.
KlezKanada takes place in and around Montreal. KlezKanada is a non-profit arts event that takes place in Canada and is known internationally for its celebration of Jewish culture. The Government of Canada recognized Hy and Sandy’s significant contributions to Canadian culture by bestowing upon them the Meritorious Service Medal of Canada in 2016. This honor was bestowed upon them in 2016 as a token of appreciation for their efforts.
