Corinne Filograna Obituary, Death – She received her Summa Cum Laude degree from Loyola University Maryland in 2022, where she also participated in Division 1 Volleyball and was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society. Since she was in the fifth grade, Corinne has had a passion for the sport of volleyball, and during her time at Loyola, she was recognized with the Father Francis McManamin Unsung Hero Award for her contributions to the team both on and off the court.
After a protracted and difficult fight with cancer, Corinne E. Filograna, age 22, passed away on May 20, 2023 at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. She was surrounded by her loving family at the time of her passing. She was born on August 10, 2000, in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, to parents Frank Filograna and Kathy (Mengeringhausen) Filograna. The home that Corinne shared with her parents was located near Collegeville.
Corinne was undergoing treatment for her cancer at the same time that she was attending classes at Drexel University for her master’s degree in public health. This year, she contributed to the publication of two journal publications with the CHOP Policy Lab, where she worked as a student clinical research assistant at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. She had many fond memories of times spent at the beach in Ocean County, New Jersey, with both her family and her friends.
She had a penchant for exploring new places and trying new foods, and she was able to combine both of those interests during her time spent in Rome. If you were to ask Corinne, she will tell you that she is in excellent health, with the exception of the fact that she has cancer. Her upbeat outlook and unwavering faith that she would find a treatment enabled her to keep moving forward with her life with grace and humor. She would always remark, “There’s always hope,” even after her cancer immediately returned following treatment.
