Benton was born in Gladewater, Texas on March 14, 1957. His parents, the late Arthur Benton Custer, Sr. and Lillian Virginia Clark, preceded him in death. Benton received his education in the Kilgore public schools and earned his diploma from Kilgore High School in 1975. Benton was an employee of Closure Systems International for more than three decades and was also a member of the First Baptist Church. He looked forward to spending time with his family in Walt Disney World, as well as going camping and supporting his granddaughters in all of their endeavors.
All of us who were fortunate enough to have known and loved him will grieve the loss of a man who was a devoted and compassionate husband, father, and grandfather. Both of his parents as well as his brother, Kelly Custer, passed away before he did. He is survived by Donna Custer, his wife of 44 years, who lives in Kilgore; their daughter Brandi Heimer and her husband Chris, who live in Liberty City; their sister Karen Ball and her husband Richard, who live in Lone Star, Texas; their granddaughters Ava Heimer and Caroline Heimer; their uncle Steve Yocom, who lives in Kilgore; and a large number of loving nieces, nephews, and other family members.
